Multimedia Flow Mobility in Heterogeneous Networks Using Multihomed Mobile IPv6
نویسندگان
چکیده
Communication in next generation networks will use multiple access technologies, creating a heterogeneous network environment. To enable end-user terminals to move between access networks with minimal disruption, the terminals should be able to maintain multiple active network connections. Such a multihomed mobile host will experience different capabilities and coverage area depending on the access technologies. This paper proposes and evaluates an extension to Mobile IPv6 enabling multihoming, regardless of the access technology. Mobility of multimedia communication in this environment should adapt to changing conditions and be base on dynamic measurements and user preferences. The proposed architecture gives opportunities for mobile multimedia applications to use multiple access networks simultaneously and the possibility to move individual flows. Media flows are identified by destination IP address, protocol and port number. Results from a real world prototype are presented using three different wireless access technologies: 802.11, UMTS and 802.16-2004.

Analysis of Multihoming in Network Mobility Support
This document is an analysis of multihoming in the context of network mobility (NEMO) in IPv6. As there are many situations in which mobile networks may be multihomed, a taxonomy is proposed to classify the possible configurations. The possible deployment scenarios of multihomed mobile networks are described together with the associated issues when network mobility is supported by RFC 3963 (NEM...

متن کاملDesign and evaluation of flow handoff signalling for multihomed mobile nodes in wireless overlay networks
With the increasing deployment of wireless overlay networks, a mobile node with a range of network interfaces can be connected to multiple heterogeneous or homogeneous access networks simultaneously. Such host multihoming technology can be exploited to distribute (or hand off) application flows among the most appropriate interfaces and access networks dynamically to achieve end-to-end seamless,...
متن کاملSurvey on Network Interface Selection in Multihomed Mobile Networks
This survey is focused on providing a cruising ship with Internet access facilities. On a ship, the entire network infrastructure (networks, subnets, devices, terminals, etc.) is subject to mobility. Multiple connections (e.g., satellite, LTE, 3G, WiFi, etc.) can provide Internet access, thus making the ship multihomed, but the different connections may be sporadic, and provide different servic...
